In this “Carmelite Conversation” Fr Matthew shares his experience of living the Carmelite charism. He recently celebrated his Golden Jubilation of Ordination and 70 years of religious life with the Carmelite community. Fr Matthew has ministered in a variety of pastoral settings and roles including Parish Priest, Teacher, Retreat and Spiritual Director in Australia and overseas (Ireland, America). He is also known for his gift of singing which has brought joy to many people and he continues to perform at aged-care facilities in Melbourne.
Fr Matthew begins this session with a chant taught by Susan Frykberg. “Slowly blooms the rose within.” A most beautiful expression which Matthew realized is all about his life of 92 years: a life that has gone through so many different stages and the word ‘slowly’ he found to be very apt. Fr Matthew is introduced by Damien Peile from The Carmelite Centre Melbourne where this session was recorded.
