Meditation for Thursday 9 October 2025

When we live in the Present it means less living in the past or in the future. In the Present we have arrived, we are not on the way. Of course, we can plan for the future and learn from our past, both as part of our Present experience.

“With Presence, we can have thoughts about the past or present, but we experience them with intention, as part of our present experience.” *

Author Caroline Welch suggests… “ The next time you become aware that your thoughts are focussed on the past or present, take a moment to look at them- are they negative, repetitive, and about you? Each of us has one or two habitual thought loops that we find ourselves returning to when we aren’t present. The first step is becoming aware, pausing for this present moment we call now. Adding just a few more moments of being present today can make a difference in bringing your most resilient self forward more often.” *

The Persian Poet, Rumi has something to say about this in his poem, “The Guest House”

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor:

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,

still treat each guest honourably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

Because each has been sent

As a guide.

And now aware that we strive to be in the Present let us now meditate in stillness conscious that we are here and now living in the Present.
