Meditation for Thursday 7th August 2025

Although during meditation we try to empty our mind and dismiss distractions as they surface in fact it’s not as simple as that.

We don’t suppress distractions but rather acknowledge their transitory nature.

We don’t become involved with distractions, but we simply observe them and return to the awareness of our breathe or whatever device we use to empty the mind.

We don’t attempt to control, and we don’t deliberately concentrate on cultivating peace. Peace comes with our breathing and regular practice.

Our basic form of meditating is concerned with trying to see what is, that is encountering reality, a very real gift in this age of social media conspiracies and AI.

When we are real, we are authentic and when we are authentic, we are truly human.

Noise for many of us is a problem when we’re trying to empty the mind, particularly when it is persistent. If at home we are meditating and we happen to live on a busy, noisy street, we cannot stop the traffic just because we want peace and quiet, but we can stop ourselves, we can accept the noise. We acknowledge the noise rather than fighting it and gradually see it as transitory and let it go.

So now let’s sit up straight, place our hands in a comfortable position, gently close our eyes, and begin to meditate.
