Meditation for Thursday, November 6, 2025
I read somewhere that on average 47% of the time we are not thinking about what we’re doing. Through meditation we train the mind to focus on the Present moment.
Science is confirming what yoga, diverse spiritual traditions and world religions have been teaching for millennia, that a mind that can focus on the Present is a strong mind.
There is some evidence that a wandering mind is the cause, not the result, of unhappiness.
Here are some tips to help us remain in the Present.
- On retreat at Plum Village, the monastery of the revered mindfulness teacher Thich Nhat Hanh bells rang throughout the day to remind us to stop whatever we were doing at that moment and to take one or two breaths. No one moment is more important than another.
- When we look at the state of the world we can despair, or we can change our attitude. And that’s where the transformative power of Presence
- Living with more Presence is a process that helps us to be more open to change.
- Presence makes clearer what matters most to us and provides meaning in our life.
The greatest courtesy we can give to others is to be truly Present to them.
The greatest gift we can give to ourselves is to live in the Present moment.
So now let us spend some time in the Present as we meditate, for ourselves and for the benefit of others.
