Meditation for Thursday 5th December 2024
All of us are conditioned by our background and our environment and often some of that conditioning can prevent us from growing into the person we should be, a person fully human, fully alive. Meditation is a way to assist us to overcome the ill effects of a life-time of conditioning.
The fruits of meditation help us to continue to grow and evolve…
- Living in the Moment…Being in the present; living in the now we paradoxically gain skills for our future, the ability to plan, to anticipate, to hope.
- Gratefulness …Meditation gives us the capacity for gratefulness, for gratitude and forgiveness. With gratefulness and a forgiving heart comes immense peace and joy.
- Empathy… Meditation helps us to imagine the world as it seems to others and having the capacity to love and hold others empathetically, but loosely.
- Silence & Solitude … Meditation with its practice of silence and solitude gives us the ability to interact and connect with others. It enables us to cherish that the world is a safe place and we are not a victim to others or to circumstance.
A retreat facilitator was asked …..“Would you tell us what method of meditation you teach to people who come to stay long-term at your retreat house?” The facilitator, a wise experienced teacher replied, “for the first three months I get them to make the tea for the senior teachers.”
In our society we have an acute sense of urgency. Meditation requires practice.
