Meditation for Thursday 4th September 2025

At meditation we often talk about the spiritual life not in any narrow way but rather in a broad sense. There is a body of writing, much of it anonymous that is published by The Lucis Trust.  Although a lot of the material is esoteric there are gems to be found that help us to see meditation as a spiritual practice.

Here is one such broad and encompassing definition.

“The word ‘spiritual’ relates to relationships,

and to the moving forward from one level of consciousness to the next.

It is related to the power to see a new vision and new and better possibilities.

It refers to every effect of the evolutionary process as it drives us forwards from one range of sensitivity to another.

It relates to the expansion of consciousness, to all activity which leads towards further development.

The discoveries of science, or the production  of some great work of literature or in the field of art, are just as much evidence of spiritual unfoldment as the experiences of the mystic…

Yet it must be said that meditation offers an alternative to the purely materialistic values of modern life.

Meditation is a means of harmonising or resolving the apparent conflict between the spiritual and material aspects of living.”
