Meditation for Thursday 28th November 2024

Is it just me or is there a general feeling that we live in uncertain times.

There seems to be a constant stream of bad news about security alerts, wars and terrorism.

And there is the inevitability of global warming among other catastrophes that make-up the daily news cycle. A state of anxiety dominates our culture.

These fears about the future can pile-up and cause us to live in a constant state of anxiety.  Or we can reduce our alarm level considerably by living contemplatively practicing meditation and mindfulness. We can go from a high level of anxiety to low level of anxiety in a remarkably short time when we make meditation a permanent part of our daily routine.

By practicing meditation we come to grips with our inner world. The more we know about our inner world the more we are capable of living in the uncertain world that surrounds us.

Meditation helps us be grounded so that anticipatory anxiety, that particular form of stress that focuses on a fraught future does not control our life. After all none us knows what the future holds, we don’t know for certain what is going to happen so worrying about it only increases anxiety. It’s not happening in the present moment.

Let’s practice now by bringing ourselves into the present moment. Meditation tunes us into the power of the present moment.
