Meditation for Thursday 27th March 2025
We think about it from the cradle to the grave. Millions of words have been written about it and advertisers assure us that it is within our grasp. We intuitively know that it is not possible to have it by acquiring money or material goods, yet in many instances we block this realisation from our mind.
We glimpse it in the birth of a child, sometimes in the sacredness of death, often in a sunset that leaves us in awe. Photos from telescopes giving images from beyond our universe billions of years ago leave us breathless but delighted in our expanded knowledge.
We are speaking about JOY!
Joy comes in various forms, but we know in meditation that it comes by making peace in the present moment, in the here and now. The present moment is the ground on which our lives are played out. In this present moment we gain the opportunity to make peace with ourselves and with others.
Sometimes we worry and fret about whether we are judged as a success or a disappointment, a winner, or a loser. The world tells us to be concerned with status. When we get caught up in this anxiety for status, joy eludes us.
When we live in the present, joy is determined more by our state of mind than external events.
The good news is that each time we come to meditation we are reclaiming joy in our life by placing ourselves in the present, by embracing the now.
