Meditation for Thursday 25th November 2021
When we meditate we try to reach that place called the ‘centre’, a place of interior stillness.
As a preparation for our meditation let us do a little mindfulness exercise to help us reach that centre.
- Sit comfortably. Take a few deep breaths and begin to scan your body for any areas of tension. Feel the gravity connecting your body to the ground beneath you, your feet touching the floor, your body resting against the chair.
- Pay attention to your breath in and out of your body. Don’t manipulate it, just tune in to the rhythm of your breath.
- Now call to mind a time in your life when you felt at peace with yourself. Maybe you were outdoors, communing with nature or maybe you were with someone who loved you unconditionally. Spend some moments with this memory. Feel the sensations and emotions of the memory.
- Now relax into the memory. As the great Vietnamese Meditation Teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh said, “We have more possibilities available in each moment than we realize.”
Now open your eyes and relax as we prepare to empty our mind during meditation and concentrate on the breath remembering that we meditate not just for ourselves but also for the benefit of others.
