Meditation for Thursday 19th December 2024

There is a mindfulness saying…”I have lived with several Zen Masters, all of them cats.”

In my experience this is certainly true with the feline species; they are comfortable in just ‘being’.

But ‘being’ is not passive because the way to do is to be.

That’s what we are doing by being when we meditate, when we live a mindful or contemplative life.

When we live in the present moment, whether it’s during these formal times of meditation or during our daily activities as we go about them mindfully, we are detaching ourselves from negativity. We remain aware of our thoughts and emotions but we just witness and treat them with equanimity and this brings peace.

When we practice faithfully there is stillness in the midst of our hectic lives and if we peel back the layers of our lives, past all that frenzy and noise, stillness is waiting.

Every time we deepen our awareness moving past the noise and clutter that project us to the past and future rather than resting in the present, we become truly who we are; we come to our centre.

For a meditator the ideal is that every moment should be a meditation, because every moment should be in the present moment.

As we meditate tonight let’s make this moment in the present.
