Meditation for Thursday 21st November 2024

For the last two weeks we have been exploring the writings of Mahatma Gandhi about meditation. We continue this week with his thoughts about authenticity and growth.

Gandhi said that meditation helps us to be authentic, to be our true selves.

“Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed.

Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.”

Perhaps the best advice any of us can get is if we want to improve our social skills to always behave in a harmonious way and communicate with authenticity. We all appreciate authentic communication and there is so much enjoyment when our thoughts, words and actions align. Meditation is a practice that fosters authenticity.

Gandhi said that meditation helps us to grow and evolve into our genuine selves.

“Constant development is the law of life, and those who try always to maintain their dogmas in order to appear consistent drive themselves into false positions.”

Meditation is a practice that helps us improve our skills, habits and often makes us reevaluate our evaluations. It allows us to gain a deeper understanding of who we are and a deeper understanding of the world.

With these thoughts in mind let us now meditate.

We sit still and upright.

We close our eyes lightly.

We sit relaxed but alert.

We breathe through the nose.

If thoughts and images come,

these are distractions so we keep returning to concentrating on our breathe

or whatever other device we might use to maintain being in the present moment.
