Richard Rohr is an American theological and spiritual writer and creator of the Centre for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque in New Mexico. He is a Catholic priest and a Franciscan Friar. His early theology was founded on his happy Catholic upbringing, his Franciscan training, his study of Duns Scotus (1266-1380CE) and Teilhard de Chardin at the Franciscan University. Also, he was excited by the possibilities of the opening up the Catholic Church following Vatican II in 1965.

He and colleagues from the Centre publish a free daily meditation, a weekly summary of those meditations and hundreds of thousands of people access this every day. He has written many books which have reached out into the world. He has travelled to many countries; invited to speak on his theology, which he says is based on Franciscan theology. It is very attractive to so-called ‘progressive Christians’ and an anathema to Evangelical Christians and some in the Catholic Church.

More information about the daily meditations by Richard Rohr and the Centre for Action and Contemplation can be found here.

About Jenny: “For more than 12 years I have ‘tutored’ a U3A class called Our Search for Meaning spending a year on each of the various world religions. My research has led me down some steep precipices and up some amazingly high mountains of realisations about our human condition. My spiritual understandings have been profoundly affected by the experience and I am humbled by the lives and teachings of those great exemplars who left us with windows and gateways into our own spiritual life.”
