This month’s Spiritual Reading Group is with Philip Harvey on Thomas Traherne.

Thomas Traherne (1637-1674) is an English poet and mystical writer whose works were lost from view for 200 years. The chance rediscovery of his many manuscripts has brought to light a spiritual vision of unique value. His emphasis on love and wonder as the true purpose of life has won him many devoted readers.

This Spiritual Reading Group will offer
1. A biography and history of Traherne’s restoration in the last hundred years;
2. readings that introduce us to his meditations on childhood, nature, God, and what he calls ‘felicity’;
3. opportunity for group discussion of these writings. SRG Thomas Traherne PASSAGES

Philip Harvey is librarian of the Carmelite Library.
