Despite the relentless pursuit of knowledge in our troubled world with its wars, strife and a pandemic, the question remains, “Has our knowledge really helped us?” Is knowledge different from wisdom? In this session Cecily will consider how an understanding of Wisdom and Folly in Shakespeare and the Book of Proverbs can help us navigate our way through today’s world. We will discover similarities and differences between the Wisdom and Folly in Shakespeare and the Book of Proverbs and how they can enrich our own Spirituality. We will have dramatized readings from these texts in order for participants to have a lived experience of the Wisdom and Folly quest. Please bring a favourite selection from Shakespeare or Proverbs displaying Wisdom and/or Folly. And be ready for a bit of theatrics!

About the facilitator: Cecily is a Creative Arts therapist and teacher who has worked as a Sensory Art teacher in a special school, has facilitated Arts programs for adolescent and adult mental well-being, and has taught Speech & Drama for over 20 years in various independent schools and privately. She completed her Graduate Diploma with the University of Divinity (2021) and is beginning her Masters at this same university with a focus on the Arts and Spirituality.

The Spiritual Reading Group will continue in 2023 on the third Wednesday of the month from 10.30 am to 12.00pm. All are welcome to join for a particular session or regularly. More details will be given about each of these session closer to the event.
