This reflection connects the secular with the sacred and helps us to recognise that God communicates in the everyday moments of life. We will experience Christian music as prayer that is both transcendental and incarnational.
Music enhances our lives as well as our worship and prayer. All types of music, secular and sacred, form part of our everyday experiences and life. Christian music, however, has another dimension. As Pope Emeritus Benedict reflected, “Great music arouses profound emotions and almost naturally invites us to raise our minds and our hearts to God. Music can become Prayer.”

About Paul
I come from the beautiful Manus Island, north of Papua New Guinea.  I left home when I was 17 years old. I am the eighth born of nine siblings. Since 2012 three of my older brothers have died leaving five of us, four boys and one girl.
I joined the Carmelites in 2000 and was solemnly professed in 2005 and ordained at the end of that year. I was appointed  in two parish communities after ordination in 2006 -2016. I then took 2 years on sabbatical and then am appointed as a full time chaplain to Whitefriars college till now.
I love liturgy and am passionate about music in my 15 years as an ordained Carmelite.
As a chaplain to Whitefriars College it is a joy to experience a new ministry, coming into a big community of students and teachers who share the same ethos and living the Carmelite charism. I enjoy being involved in the various liturgies and college events. It is a peaceful environment. Now as the full-time chaplain with the Religious Education team, I feel I am putting my gift of liturgy into practice and gaining new experiences. Music is a vital part of the liturgy that makes my priestly ministry vibrant and prayerful.

Carmelite Conversation: On the first Wednesday morning of each month we explore a topic related to the rich tradition of Carmelite Spirituality. Each month the session will be led by a person inspired by Carmelite Spirituality and so part of the broad community of the Carmelite Family.
