November Spiritual Reading Group

A prolific writer of hymns, poems and sermons, St Ephraim the Syrian is one of the most beloved saints of the Syriac Orthodox Church. Over 400 of his hymns survive.
Ephraim viewed the natural world, alongside the Bible, as one of God’s two witnesses; nature and scripture both acting as pointers to spiritual reality and truth.
In this session we will look at a group of poems known as the Hymns of the Pearl, in which Ephraim uses the image of the pearl as a basis for a series of meditations on the mystery of the Incarnation.
