As part of your spiritual practice during Lent, join us via zoom to recite Evening Prayer together on the six Mondays of Lent. Each week will be hosted by one of the Lay Carmelite communities in Australia. No prior experience of praying the Divine Office is needed.
The Church at prayer celebrating the Divine Office, or as it is more commonly called now, the Liturgy of the Hours is for everyone; Â to have the opportunity to offer prayer for the whole world, by daily praise and intercession, sorrow and thanksgiving using the psalms and the reading of scripture for all that is happening in our lives. Jesus prayed the psalms and knew them intimately; the psalms are poetry, they use symbolic language but deal with human reality. They express a real relationship between God and his people, using human characteristics to describe God, to hold the door open for encounter with the living and loving God.
When we pray the Liturgy of the Hours we pray with Jesus; the very words he used. In the intercessions we can ask him to listen to us, or sometimes they join the prayers of Jesus with our own prayers, in our requests to the Father. He is with us as we ask the Spirit of comfort and consolation and courage to be with us on our journey… in these prayers he walks with us.
Mondays of Lent: 10 March, 17 March, 24 March, 7 April and 14 April.
