Jessica Powers (1905-1988) lived most of her life in the state of Wisconsin in the United States, over half of that in the Carmel of the Mother of God in Milwaukee, then when it moved to Pewaukee. She took the name Sister Miriam of the Holy Spirit when she received the habit at the age of 37.

Jessica started writing poetry when she was a teenager and it went from there. This session is essentially a poetry reading, for enjoyment and edification, of many of her poems. There will be a biography of the poet and a paper on aspects of the work. The rest of the time we will just hear poems and talk about them.

Please book via the form below and pay $5 cash on the day. Thank you.

The “Carmelite Conversations” program continues throughout 2020 with a range of presenters and topics. See the detailed list below. More information will be available for each month closer to the date.
