This is one of our regular “Carmelite Conversations”.  The Carmelite Story: Journey of the Heart

Join the conversation about this unique Carmelite journey of the heart which spans more than 800 years. The Carmelites are known for living a contemplative life. Yet many people question ‘what is Carmelite Spirituality and how is it different from other traditions?’

Drawing on the work of the Carmelite author John Welch O Carm, this session will focus attention on several themes in his influential book The Carmelite Way: An Ancient Path for Today’s Pilgrim.

These include: The practice of Contemplative Prayer; How prayer leads us into the reality of the world in a spirit of justice and peace, Prayer and the Self – the call to become fully human and coming into harmony with our true self.

These principles of living and being are shown to us through many Carmelite figures throughout the history of the order. The book grapples with what it is that sustains a vision for such a long time and still energises and challenges people.
