YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN KATHRYN PILE FOR CENTERING MEDITATION THURSDAY 5PM 22 JUNE

Dear Meditators
This week our meditation is taken from Henry Nouwen’s book, LifeSigns. Like Richard Rohr of the last few weeks… we will consider further a theme that love is stronger than death: a possibility to move from a house of fear to a house of love.

Henry says:

  • We are a fearful people. Fear can make us upset, angry, drive us into depression, despair…it can surround us with darkness. But why are we so terribly afraid? …if kept in fear, we can be made to act, speak or even think as slaves. Fearful ‘what-if’ questions never lead to love-filled answers. The nature of the questions we raise is as important as the answers to our questions. Jesus seldom accepted the questions posed to him. He gently put them aside as questions emerging from false worries…and always transformed the question by his answer.
  • 1 John tells us, “perfect love casts out all fear.” Henry tells us that it’s possible to move out of the house of fear into the house of love. “Do not be afraid, have no fear,” is repeated over and over again. This reassuring voice, is the voice of God’s messengers and angels throughout history, and is the reassurance of Jesus…”it is I, do not be afraid…come follow me…see where I live…the kingdom of God is close at hand…there are many rooms. Come take for your heritage the Kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.”

Relax now in body and mind, slow your breathing, and enter your meditation, centering your prayer, and allow yourself to hear the words “it is I, do not be afraid.”
