Dear Meditators
Today we will finish our series of meditations from Margaret Silf’s book, Wayfaring, which has taken us through Advent with the invitation to prepare the way of the Lord – to walk with Jesus to become a wayfarer, and in loving relationship with other wayfarers, to become a way-maker for others.
The aim of our meditation as always is to create a sacred space for God’s Presence…and by maintaining our intention towards that Presence, through breath, image or word (if distracted), and ultimately through silence…experience a response from God’s Presence at an individual heart felt level. This is the heart of Centering Prayer.
Through the series, we have considered being ‘seeds of God’, ‘weaving a space for God,’ ‘being on the road to Bethlehem,’ and today, ‘Gifting.’
Let’s begin…Margaret says:
- As events unfold in Bethlehem, some shepherds, very much at the lower end of the social scale of the times, are keeping the night watch…so too, some wise men, cultivated in the habit of keeping their eyes and minds open to events in the universe around…were on their way to the Child. Both of these events give us insight into how to respond to the Christ-life that is coming to birth in many ways in each other…only after having discovered and revered Christ do they offer whatever gifting they can bring.
- Let us offer the gifts from our treasury humbly and sensitively, aware that whenever the Christ in one of us meets the Christ in another, there will be an exchange of gifts.
Relax now in body and mind, slow your breathing, and enter your meditation, centering your prayer, your will and intention on fresh discovery, and reverence of the Christ-life… responding to Christ’s birth in you…offering your gifts to the Child.
Love and every blessing for Christmas and the coming year,
Kathryn
