Dear Meditators
From time to time it is beneficial to revisit our meditation practice. This week let us reflect on the perspective of bringing our bodies and minds into the space as an aid to centering our prayer; moving towards our spiritual centre, and becoming more open to God’s call to friendship and intimacy. Louis Hughes, a Dominican priest, in his book, The Art of Allowing, provides exercises through which we can learn to pray in more holistic ways.

  • In one of these exercises Louis describes a stepped practice of coming into the Trinity. First, as you relax become aware of your thoughts, then without analysing them, release any problem, relax deeper, allowing it to float away. Do this as many times as you like before the next step of centering your mind. He invites us then to picture in your imagination a square, concentrating on it then moving within it to see a circle from which you move within to picture a triangle. Relax completely within the triangle. Enjoy being physically and mentally relaxed. Feel yourself protected by the triangle.
  • Take your meditation a step further. There is an even deeper level of relaxation, which you can receive at the core of your spirit. You are supported by a loving, powerful Being. Become receptive to God’s unconditional love for you personally. Read the triangle surrounding you on all sides as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Within the triangle you can hear the words of Jesus supporting you:

“Know that am in my Father and you in me, and I in you.” (John 14:20)
“Abide in me, as I abide in you.” (John 15:4)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you…Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Love and every blessing, Kathryn
