Dear Meditators, Over the last few weeks we have used the words from mystics of the past, The Cloud of Unknowing, and Teresa and John as our focus in centering our meditation. This week we will consider the words from a contemporary inspirational author, Cynthia Bourgeault.
- In the chapter, Journey to the Wellsprings of her book, Mystical Hope, Cynthia writes of the human condition where you know hope is missing and you want to find it. Not the kind of hope the world gives which is tied to a good outcome, but rather something to do with presence – that immediate experience of being met, or held; an abiding state of lightness of being, despite the circumstances. She calls this the invitation to the secret of Jesus, the great inner journey.
As you prepare to relax in body and mind, to slow your breathing, and enter your silence, allow yourself to accept the invitation towards divine fulfillment, a bare energy of openhearted expectancy, and a new way of seeing hope.
- Consider the image from scripture, of the woman at the well, John 4:13 – 14, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” This encourages us to bear fruit at a psychological level in the sensations of strength, joy and satisfaction – produced from within, like a body of hope. Love and every blessing, Kathryn (Mystical Hope– Chpt 1 – Journey to the Wellsprings, p 1 – 18.)
We will be with you in prayer this afternoon at 1pm.
