news_griefThe experience of any loss (death, illness, growing older, changes in employment) can be like enduring a fierce storm at sea. Sometimes we feel swamped and overwhelmed. Other times, the storms settle for a while only to return later. Most of us experience these storms and survive.

The impact of any loss can be varied:

  • Changes to Self- physical/emotional/mental/spiritual
  • Changes in Family – role & responsibilities
  • Changes to Work – ability to earn money/change of workplace
  • Social networks can be different
  • Leisure & recreation opportunities may change
  • Dealing with bureaucracies may be required

There are some basic ‘Tasks of Adjustment’ that can assist during this time and it is often useful to talk with someone other than family and friends.

The Carmelite Centre invites you to explore your experience of these stormy life events and to learn of the ways you have managed to ‘stay afloat’.

Confidential grief counseling is available through the Carmelite Centre by Damien Peile, accredited Loss and Grief Counselor.
