Mission and Goals

The Carmelite Centre Melbourne envisions to provide programs that reflect the three major orientations of the Centre :

Spirituality and Religion - developing healthy spirituality

  • Supporting people in discovering, exploring and developing their relationship with God
  • Exploring different styles of prayer and other religious traditions
  • Promoting Carmelite Spirituality in faith, liturgy and live
  • Integrating spirituality and life

Wellbeing, Wholeness and Health - living our human lives well

  • Nourishing the human spirit and the physical self
  • Promoting integration of the human person
  • Supporting people through the difficult moments of life

Outreach and Connecting to the local community

  • Building social cohesion
  • Promoting strong links with our local Council and other organisations
  • Offering the Centre as a meeting place for the local community
  • Addressing contemporary issues

The Centre's Mission reflects a conscious Christian duty to honour the individual and respect diversity, welcoming people who seek spirituality and personal enrichment by engaging them in spiritual programs, dialogue and community.

In the Carmelite tradition of hospitality, the centre strives to provide opportunities to build community and encounter God.

The Centre's Goals include:

- To foster and develop a rich and diverse expression of spirituality
- To place special emphasis on the mystical core or contemplative dimension of Carmelite Spirituality
- To engage in a creative search for a new language of faith
- To promote spirituality that is concerned with the whole of life, with justice and social order
- To provide spiritual resources and support to those seeking to explore Truth and encounter God
